MM Festival Fun

Nottingham is full of strangers with the Fair and so one more won't cause any excitement.

The fights haven't started yet but they will soon and there's something to see every where.

Shay gives him a dubious look, then glances around to see if there are any women nearby.

There are a number of women about, ladies who are shopping, women behind some of the booths and peasant girls running about, a few of them do give Shay and Will thoughtful looks.

Shay gives one of them a wave when they look towards him and Will.

Leaning over to Will: "You seem quite popular."

"Nay, they dinna know ye also ye're wearin' better quality clothes."

"Bar's kind. We could swap - except I don't think that'd really work." He's a fair bit taller than Will, after all, and while he's on the lean side, he's still broader around the shoulders. "Never mind."

"Could always tell 'em that ye've got a sweet'eart."

"I never said attention was a bad thing. I mean, I'm not really getting any, so that's kinda moot anyway."

"Tis the Fair so ye might."

After all he is taller than many men so keeps getting curious looks.

Shay's taller than most men in his own time. In the past, where people were, he hears, on average shorter, he wonders whether he's a giant.

He quickly dismisses the idea of a Shayzilla rampaging through Nottingham.

"Maybe. So, what's there to do?"

"There's fightin', dancin' an lots o'things just goin' on."

"Fighting and dancing both sound fun. Anything else?"

"Lots o'food. What were ye 'opin' for?"

"Nothing in particular. Just want to know my options."

"Most things are 'bout, just if ye steal try na to get caught."

"Yessir. When do the fights start?"

"Depends what sort ye like, with a staff or bare 'anded."

"Bare handed," Shay says. "I mean, I'm not exactly an expert boxer, but I've never used a staff, so it makes more sense."

"Then na too long."

Will turns them towards the area with more fighters and a sense of anticipation as men are posturing.

"Do I have to sign up anywhere?"

"Just give yer name to that fellow."

Will points over to a tired looking man who is listening to fighters reel off how good they are.

"Should do that quick-like then. 'Cause I don't want to miss the posturing."

Shay heads over to the man, grinning.

"Hey. Shay Doyle - I'd like to fight bare handed?"

The man looks him over,

"Aye, aye, wait yer turn an ye'll be called up."

"'Kay. Any rules?"

"Na bitin' or knives."

"Okay, thanks," Shay gives him a nod and heads over to where the other men are posturing.
