Information Gathering

The rain has slowed, but not fully stopped. Allan pulls up his cloak and gestures to Daiki,

"Should make things easier as all the good souls will be in the taverns drinking and quite glad to hear some fine music."

A tavern. Perfect. Daiki already knows how he's going to get around this problem.

Enthusiastically: "Let's go, then!"

"Aye,"

Allan grins at Daiki, he likes his sense of humor, "Who did ye hear speakin' Do have to make sure we end up the at the proper tavern."

"I can't be sure," Daiki says, feigning deep thought. He's very good at it. "Burly guy. Blondish-brown hair. Not the smartest guy ever."

He figures that description has to apply to somebody in Nottingham.

"Was 'e a guard or wearin' aught to let ye know what 'e did?"

"A guard."

After all, even if he is just making this up off the top of his head, he needs to make it believable. Anybody who's burly, not that smart, and has reason to know the Sheriff's business is likely to be a guard.

Allan nods, that would make the most sense,

"Then think I know the best place for us to go an listen. All the guards prefer one tavern though they'd ne'er say they do."

"Won't we stand out like sore thumbs?"

Which Daiki is kind of hoping for.

"Nay, I'm brinin' the gift o'song with me."

Allan grins at Daiki, there's a reason he was sent on this mission.

"Fair enough."

"Ye just keep yer head down an sing along or pass the hat."

"I'll see if I can ask around, maybe."

"Aye, just dinna draw too much attention to yerself. I'll keep their eyes on me."

"Sure, sure."

They've arrived in Nottingham, which is quiet as the rain has kept most people inside.

Allan makes his way to a tavern that hugs the outer wall of the castle and enters with a smile and a flourish,

"Good e'en, my good men. I come to sing to ye of brighter times."

All eyes go to Allan though a few note Daiki and wait to see if he's going to do something.

Daiki just settles down in a corner for a moment, looking around for anybody he looks burly, with blond-brown hair.

Burly isn't really a problem to find, most of the guards fit that description. Brown hair also is easy to find, its just a matter of what state of drunk and distracted Daiki wants the guy to be in.

Not too distracted, Daiki thinks. Tipsy, but not too drunk. Greedy, if possible, in the sense of wanting money.

Most of the men are looking at Allan and one of them is slightly singing along, while not being falling over drunk.

Daiki makes his way over to him, swiping a few purses of money on the way: Ones left unattended, ones on the belts of people to drunk to notice - he's very good at picking out which ones aren't being watched and taking them so that nobody notices.

"How're you today?"

The man looks over to him and smiles,

"Good, 'ave a drink."

"Thanks, I will."

Daiki sips thoughtfully for a few moments, trying to check if Allan can hear them. When he's pretty confident that he can't, he turns back to the man.

"What's your name?"

"Samuel, I'm one o'the Sheriff's special guards,"

He taps his nose with a grin.

"The perfect man for me, then." He lowers his voice slightly: "Now, don't cause a fuss, but that singer up there? Is one of the outlaws from Sherwood."

The only difference in Samuel is that he's sitting slightly straighter,

"Oh aye? What's 'e doin' 'ere?"

"Well, that's the thing, isn't it? I'm one of the Sheriff's ... special enforcers, if you will. He sent me to infiltrate the outlaws and ruin their plans," Daiki says solemnly. "That's why I need you, Sam. Someone clever and loyal."

Headtilt.

"Somebody who won't let on that he knows that singer is an outlaw, but who will tell him that he's heard the Sheriff plotting to steal the Hand of Herne. Can you do that?"

"What'll I get out o'it?" Samuel leans towards Daiki.

"The Sheriff will be very happy with you. You could end up his favourite. Besides," Daiki cocks his head a little, "once you're done, you can feel free to take offense at something, drag the singer outside and beat him to within an inch of his life, if you want. I'll have to at least pretend to try and stop you, but I'm only skinny."

If the guard wants more, he's prepared for that, too.

"Do like that idea. Sure if I told 'im it was to make it believable, 'e'd e'en go with it."

"Up to you, my friend, up to you. I need to move on and see about talking to some other people now, give the pretense of asking around."

"Aye, aye, give me the nod when I should talk to 'im."

"Not to worry. He'll talk to you eventually," Daiki says. "Just don't give the information immediately. Act a bit reluctant."

He then moves away, wandering over to somebody else who fits the same general description. He keeps an eye on Samuel, though.

"So, anything interesting going on?"

Samuel settles back in his seat and drinks, but slowly keeping an eye on Daiki and Allan. Allan is finishing up a set and getting a drink and some food from the tavern owner.

The man that Daiki approaches is very drunk and almost falls on him.

Daiki makes a slightly weary face, and moves onto somebody else. Somebody a bit more sober looking.

"Enjoying the evening?"

"Aye, buy me a drink?"

The man says with a grin as he leans on Daiki.

"No money," Daiki lies.

"Oh aye, then best get some,"

The man says as he leans more on Daiki.

Daiki eases him off.

"I'll go do that then," he says, wandering away. He glances back at Allan, and then to Samuel.

Samuel gets up and wanders over to Allan, praising him and whispers something to him.

Allan tenses for a moment before nodding and searching out Daiki and raising an eyebrow in question.

Daiki raises an eyebrow in response.

So Allan turns back to Samuel who for a moment smiles to Daiki and then starts yelling about a song that insulted the Prince.

The hits come faster and harder than Allan was told to expect and soon the fight involves the entire tavern.

Daiki makes a point of looking alarmed, as if he genuinely wasn't expecting this. Even in the midst of a bar brawl, it's not too much of a task for him to duck, weave, and jump his way around people and threw the tavern.

When he gets to Samuel, he doesn't bother with anything especially flashy. He just swings a stool at his head from behind.

Samuel goes down and Allan heads towards the door once he sees that Daiki is coming too.

Daiki follows him, shooting a quick grin at the tavern before ducking out the door.

Outside Allan is leaning against the wall,

"Think we learned all we could."

"What'd he say?"

"Ye were right, Sheriff's wants the Hand."
