Adventures with Atton Part II

Will and Atton are on the road to Lincoln, its been raining through the morning but its cleared up and Will is grinning,

"Just 'membered that they're 'avin' their Fair so should be some fightin' for ye."

"Aye, make good stuff 'ere. Might e'en pick up some cloth for us, what we 'ave is startin' to wear a bit."

"S'a good idea. Might as well take advantage of all the market stuff."

"Oh aye an all the other stuff."

Will heads towards a stall which sells a strong green cloth and Will places an order.

"Green. S'a nice colour. Suits you, does."

"Aye, good for many things."

There's yell from the other side of the market,

"All fighters, get yerselves o'er 'ere!"

"I gotta go, see y'later," Atton says, heading in the direction of the yell, finishing off his pastry as he goes.

Will nods and fades back into the crowd as the man who had been behind the table looks at the arriving fighters,

"Right, ye, Doran, start ye off fightin' 'arald."

Harald's about Atton's size and one of the smaller men there as the announcer points to the stairs up the platform.

Atton nods, taking off his weapons, boots and socks, and stripping down to his waist.

"Look after these for me," he says to the man behind the table, setting them by him before bounding up the stairs onto the platform.

"Harald. Hey."

The other man quickly strips and leaves them at the table before grinning and charging at Atton.

Atton grins back, sliding out of the way and elbowing at his back.

Harald tries to move out of the way and does his best to grab Atton in a hold.

Atton dodges out of his reach, laughing a little before lunging for him, coming in low and punching fast at his gut.

That causes Harald to double over and curse as he kicks out at Atton.

Atton dodges, grabbing Harald's leg and pushing, before letting go and moving in with a flurry of punches at his face.

All these combine to take Harald down quickly and soon the announcer to holding up Atton's arm,

"Doran wins, ye'll fight whoe'er wins the next fight."

Atton grins.

"Thanks," he heads back out into the crowd, looking for Will. He doesn't stop to collect his clothes and weapons - he'll leave that until all the fights are done - but he does feel a twinge of self-consciousness about his scars.

It's one thing for people to see his scars when he's up on a stage. It's another when he's walking around normally. He's not sure why.

He does get a few looks, some admiring from women and a few guards look over him more closely as Will steps out,

"Ye won?"

"Yeah. Was pretty easy, but s'only the first fight."

Atton is acutely aware of the looks he's getting. He's not entirely sure whether to be pleased or more self-conscious. Both, probably.

"Ye dinna wanna watch who ye'll be fightin' next?"

"Oh, yeah, I probably should," Atton says absently. "Could be interesting. I'll see you later."

Atton rushes off, finding himself a spot where he can see the fight fairly easily.

The fight that's currently going on isn't a truly fair match, Alf who Atton spoke to before is pummeling another man while in the wings another two men wait.

Atton watches, quietly impressed, before casting a glance over to take a look at the two men in the wings, sizing them up.

One of them is of a middle build and looks faster and the other ones about as bulky as Alf.

Atton turns his attention back to Alf's fight.

Which has just ended and Alf's declared the winner and the announcer waves Atton and the medium build man up to fight.
