Mirror Plot II

Atton is led to a decent room that's not too high up in the castle and Will pushes him through,

"Ye'll be brought food an we'll fight in the mornin'. 'arald, ye keep watch an dinna let 'im try to trick ye."

"Oh aye, who knows if ye win. Sheriff might e'en 'ire ye."

Then Harald turns and leaves bolting the door behind him once more.

"I'd rather eat my own arm," Atton remarks, once Harald has left.

Shrugging, he scarfs down the food, before lying back and getting comfy.

One candle is provided in the room and throughout the night the sounds of muted celebration can be heard.

Atton just filters out the sounds, closing his eyes and drifting off into a half sleep. He's awake enough to notice anyone coming in, but asleep enough to get some energy from it.

No one disturbs him for the night, they have no need to since he's locked in.

Atton wakes up a little before the morning, quickly swallows whatever food is left, and quickly limbers up.

Now he just needs to wait until somebody gets him.

Its not too long and Will opens the door,

"Come on, let's get this o'er will."

"Aw. Not excited?" Atton says, heading out. "I bet you don't often get a chance t'have a proper fight. Must be all beating up people who can't hit back for you."

"I do me job an earn me coin. 'arald, take 'im."

Harald moves in and grabs Atton's arm as they start towards the courtyard.

Atton drags his heels, taking a great interest in the torches as they pass.

"Pretty flame."

When nobody is looking, he drops small, black balls, waxy and sticky, onto some of the torches. Only a few, here and there.

"What's yer name then?"

Will finally asks when they're nearing the entrance to the courtyard.

"Doran," Atton says. He nudges Harald a bit. "Let me go, will you?"

"Nay, be quiet."

Will glares at Atton,

"Ye talk too much."

"You asked me a question!"

"Aye, aye, course I did."

"Silly Will."

Now Atton gets another glare,

"Dinna speak to me that way."

"Why not? Does it offend your big guard sensibilities?"

"Ye dinna know me so ye've na right to e'en speak to me so."

"Someone's arrogant. Maybe forgetting that they used t'just be a peasant?" Beat. "I mean, I suppose y'have to, 'cause kriff, nobody else around here has."

Will stops and flattens Atton to the wall,

"Ye aimin' to die?"

Atton laughs.

"Careful, Red. Leave it until the actual fight. Y'wouldn't want t'let down the Sheriff - he might never trust you again."

"Look forward to poundin' yer face in."

Then Will releases him and turns nodding to Harald who hauls Atton along a bit faster.

"I'm sure y'do."

They reach the courtyard where the Sheriff and some guests are waiting,

"Now this should be a treat, one o'my best fighters an a stranger."

Will bows and moves to take off his armor as Harald pushes Atton forward.
